What is there to visit in the Verdon Lakes and Gorges region?

Many museographic or natural spaces are to be found in our region like the Museum of Woodturning in Aiguines, the park and the The troglodytic caves of Villecroze, TheArt of toys in Bauduen, The The Truffle House of Aups and Verdon - discover all these sites and others dedicated to this information on our special page.

Come and meet our craftsmen  - Mosaic artists, potters, santonniers ... they are waiting for you in their shops or workshop to reveal the secrets of their craft.

Côté patrimoine, nos 16 villages recèlent de petites pépites à découvrir sans modération comme par exemple à :

– Trigance – Le Mill of Soleils - the last traditional flour-powered water mill in operation in the Var.

– Aiguines – Le Col d’Illoire ou Le Grand Margès et leur panorama sur les Verdon Gorges..

– Les Salles-sur-Verdon – The permanent exhibition of photos and models on submerged valley at the Tourist Information Office.

– Bauduen – Andrônes – Its staired streets are typical of Haute-Provence.

– Baudinard – Notre-Dame de la Garde Chapel located at an altitude of 709 m.

– Artignosc-sur-Verdon – The old communal bread oven behind the castle.

– Villecroze – The wooded park at the foot of the troglodyte caves.

– Tourtour – Saint-Denis church and its panorama clear to Mont Faron on windy days.

– Vérignon – The Notre-Dame de Liesse Chapel - small perched chapel

– Aups –  The monument to the insurrection of 1851 - only 5 monuments dedicated to this event in France.

– Moissac-Bellevue – The Notre-Dame de la Roque chapel and its belvedere which offers a magnificent view of the plain that they overlook.

– Régusse – Windmills among the last traditional flour mills in the Var.

– Châteauvieux – The Saint-Pierre-en-Demueyes chapel in the middle of a clearing.

– La Martre – The Serre bridgeover the Artuby known as “Pont de Madame” from the 18th century Artuby.

– Brenon – le panorama sur les Alpes depuis le rocher qui domine le village en parcourant le sentier de randonnée : Les hauteurs de Brenon

– Le Bourguet – The Castrum de Bagarris site médiéval d’un village fortifié détruit au XVIème siècle.

Parmi ces villages, Baudinard-sur-Verdon, Moissac-Bellevue, Régusse, Tourtour et Villecroze ont reçu le label des villes et villages fleuris ;

Tourtour est classé parmi les Plus Beaux Villages de France ;

Aups et Villecroze sont classés Villages de caractère du Var – Aups est de plus classé parmi les Plus Beaux Détours de France.

What activities are there to do in the Verdon Lakes and Gorges region ?

► Nautical activities
  • To cool off from our hot days, a swim in our lakes is just the thing!

There are numerous beaches and littles creeks on the border of our lakes.

For your security, you will find supervised swimming areas on the shore from July, 1st to August, 31st.

    • in Aiguines - Galetas Beach,
    • In Les Salles-sur-Verdon - below the village
    • In Bauduen - below the village

Jumping into the water from bridges and rocks is forbidden by interdepartmental or municipal order.

For your security, never cross the buoy lines around the dams. EDF reminder: This lake is an artificial lake: the sloping and unstable banks, the depth of the water and the variations in the level of the reservoirs make access to the lake dangerous.

 

  • Rafting, canyoning, hydrospeed, white water swimming, water trekking, cano-raft... Many white water activities are possible in the Verdon.
    White water activities depend on the release of water from the dams located upstream from Castellane.
    In July and August, they take place on Tuesdays and Fridays, subject to modification by EDF.

  • In calm water: Pedal boats, electric boats, fun boats, catamarans, paddle boats, windsurfers, dinghies, canoes and kayaks: there are water sports centres and rental companies in Artignosc-sur-Verdon, Bauduen, Les Salles-sur-Verdon and Aiguines. Calm water activities can be practised on the lakes of Sainte-Croix and Artignosc-sur-Verdon as well as in the lower Gorges at Baudinard-sur-Verdon.

Discover our marked trails : from a simple walk to the trek, there is something for all levels and all desires! Do not hesitate to visit the chemindesparcs.fr site to find the marked routes, you can discover there for example: The path « Le Pelenc » in Moissac-Bellevue, « The Grand Margès » in Aiguines, or « The Summit of Clare » in Brenon…

In the Canyon, the hikes are sporty and accessible only from 8 years old.

The Imbut trail is prohibited for dogs, for security reasons (ladders and handrails).

Explore our territory by bike! Whatever your choice, from the family course, such as the mountain bike route to Salles-sur-Verdon, to the more sporty courses, such as the cycle touring circuit at the Verdon dams , there is something for everyone!

In the event of mechanical trouble, our tourist information offices have a small bicycle repair kit.

There are many things to do and discover with children, here are some ideas:

Free Wi-Fi is available in all of our tourist information centres. You will also find there the possibility of recharging smartphones or laptops as well as a small cycle repair kit.

A free wifi connection is also available at Moissac-Bellevue and at Trigance:

  • Moissac: Place de la fontaine.
  • Trigance: Place du Village, near the Post Office.
Where can I find an ATM ?

ATMs are available in Aups, Les Salles sur Verdon, Régusse and Villecroze as well as in Bauduen from 15 June to 15 September

Where can I find a laundromat?

Laundry are available in the car parks of the supermarkets in Aups and Régusse; As well as in the following campsites: "Chanteraine" in Aiguines, "Les Ruisses" in Les Salles-sur-Verdon "Le Ruou" in Villecroze.

How can I get around Verdon?
  • We advise you to come by car so that you can explore our region in complete freedom.
  • A "Covoit’ici" carpooling system is being deployed in part of our territory. Find all the details by following this link
  • You can also use the on-demand bus service which serves the municipalities of the cantons of Aups and Barjols when regular lines do not exist – How does it work?:
    - Contact the reservation center on 00 33 8 09 400 013
    - Explain the schedule and the desired route, the central office offers a transport solution that is best suited as part of a rationalization of all of the requests expressed.
    - The reservation is made at the latest the day before before 4.30 p.m. (and before 4.30 p.m. on Saturday for a trip on Monday)
    The reservation center is open Monday to Saturday from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and from 1:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Where can I park and how much does it cost?

There are many car parks in our villages and almost all of them are free.

Attention, plusieurs communes ont établi des zones bleues: Pensez à équiper votre véhicule d’un disque de stationnement.
